{"id":733,"date":"2010-12-28T12:31:14","date_gmt":"2010-12-28T02:31:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.madox.net\/blog\/?p=733"},"modified":"2010-12-28T12:38:37","modified_gmt":"2010-12-28T02:38:37","slug":"3d-printed-whistle-thin-flat-wtf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.madox.net\/blog\/2010\/12\/28\/3d-printed-whistle-thin-flat-wtf\/","title":{"rendered":"3D Printed Whistle &#8211; Thin &#038; Flat (WTF)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m really pushing the limits of my backcronym ability \ud83d\ude42 \u00a0I present to you another WTF! \u00a0This time a whistle.<\/p>\n<p>The design originally was intended as a pendant for my niece that&#8217;s customized with her name and printed using wax and cast into sterling silver&#8230; it was originally 3 tone too&#8230;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_735\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-735\" style=\"width: 450px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.madox.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/DSC03334.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-735\" title=\"Whistle Thin &amp; Flat\" src=\"http:\/\/www.madox.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/DSC03334-450x299.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.madox.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/DSC03334-450x299.jpg 450w, http:\/\/www.madox.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/DSC03334-1024x681.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.madox.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/DSC03334.jpg 1800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 85vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-735\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">...and pink...<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>However the design has to be simplified in order to be printed &#8216;hassle free&#8217; using the Up! printer that&#8217;s based on a FDM process. \u00a0Complex overhangs either end up sagging or require support structures that are impossible to clean in such an enclosed space. \u00a0Inside the wall edges have a 45\u00b0\u00a0chamfer applied to minimize the need for a support structure. \u00a0This is intentionally done on the &#8216;side&#8217; as printing and applying the chamfers in the &#8216;tall&#8217; orientation affects the air chamber flow too much it almost makes no sound.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t know where the chain holder ended up in the simplification&#8230;you can always add it back yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Printed using Up! printer, fine settings, 0.2mm layer, \u00a0solid fill, raft settings &#8211; dense=4, angle&lt;40, area&lt;10mm.<\/p>\n<p>Works straight out from the printer even without removing it from the platform! \u00a0Blew into it and it sounded \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_734\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-734\" style=\"width: 450px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.madox.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/DSC03329.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-734\" title=\"Whistle - Works straight out from the printer!\" src=\"http:\/\/www.madox.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/DSC03329-450x299.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"299\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.madox.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/DSC03329-450x299.jpg 450w, http:\/\/www.madox.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/DSC03329-1024x681.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.madox.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/12\/DSC03329.jpg 1800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 85vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-734\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Whistle - Works straight out from the printer!
